Lisa’s Mom entered her to win the October 5th drawing from KFAT for the free portrait session and she was lucky enough to win! Lisa is an early graduate so she’s outta school in December – lucky girl. Lucky me — I got to shoot her dimples and dinky nose ring. Totally loved the shoot, despite staying inside because it’s too cold for outside shooting.

cameron and his mom came up from juneau for a photo shoot and other business. cam wanted some cool shots that didn’t have anything to do with being inside a studio, so we hiked around outside and got these cool images. it was a fun shoot – except that my flash wouldn’t work … it was very beautiful but also very cold, so i’m going to have to find a new system for my flash units.

Anchorage 2011 South High Senior Portrait Session: Emily.

I have shot Emily once before and she was amazing. She was a senior model rep for jamie lang photography earlier this summer and passed out almost all of her 120 cards

Emily is an actor, singer and gymnast. She posed easily and naturally for the camera so it was very easy for me to photograph her. She brought her own style and ideas to the shoot, which again made it easier for both of us. She also suggested poses that she wanted for herself that we tried: some worked like magic and some failed terribly. It’s always exciting for me when a client knows exactly what they’ve seen before and how they want to tweak it and recreate it for themselves.

The weather was another factor we had to deal with: it was amazing outside! Anchorage has had such a horribly rainy summer, with cool temperatures and mugginess, that on this particular Sunday afternoon shoot it was really beyond the most incredible summer shoot I’ve had the fortune of photographing. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, as is obvious from the images I’ve posted here. Being able to shoot in weather like this really makes me think that the photographers in California have it the best: the ocean, the water, the sandy beaches and the SUN! I envy them a bunch after getting to really experiment with amazing sunny weather with Emily.

The overall set up: we shot in my studio yard by the apple tree (while we both snacked on some delicious apples), the graffiti wall, the grass with the daisies, a red building down the street and on the railroad tracks. [p.s. I've been told that is illegal, but there were no signs saying so and I've seen gobs of railroad photos before … and we're both still alive and well to show these photographs.] I used lights in some of these images but not all. The whole entire shoot lasted just under two hours.
